Gear-a-holic part 14
This time I present you a nice little gadget called Olegtron*4060. Here's what the Olegtron Mechatronics website says about their product:
"The Olegtron* 4060 is a compact oscillator/divider box capable of creating unique signals and sequences through a revolutionary programming method of sticking components to it’s patchboard! The device can be used as a standalone sound generator that connects with a 3.5mm stereo jack output or to control a wide variety of machines, such as toys or synths with control voltage, clock or gate input."
Included with the package is a collection of electronic components which you can stick to the patch board. Watch out, the space for patch board is very small leaving you accidentally pushing some components off while trying to insert new ones. Once you get the idea how it works, it is easy to play and try (well, that is what it is all about) with it for hours. Basically, if you are familiar with circuit bending and basics of audio electronics, this is nothing new under radar, but for people like me who have not much knowledge about electronics and being not comfortable with soldering shit together, this comes as a welcome household piece. I actually found it to be very useful attached to cv inputs of my Doepfer Dark Energy. I've also attached some external dead circuits to it's patch board for some extra surprises.
This time I actually have some test files for you to share, a small collection of me testing new and new-ish audio gear (Olegtron 4060, Doepfer Dark Energy, Boss ME-50, Alesis SR-16 drum machine, Electro Harmonix Ravish Sitar). These are not composed pieces, rather a quick improvisations with minimum editing or mastering just to give you idea of what Olegtron is cabable of doing attached to another gear. Track 5 does not use Olegtron but I decided to include it to this package because of my latest gear purchases.
Tracks 1 and 4 have been made by driving Olegtron 4060 through Boss ME-50 multieffect pedal (distortion and small amount of delay) for some noisy results.
Track 2 was made by Olegtron used as cv output to Dark Energy which works quite nice.
Track 3 uses the same connection as track 2 except that there is a small circuit with three potentiometers attached to control Olegtron cv output. Track is composed of two droning files overlapping each other.
Track 5 is made of two signal chains: Alesis drum machine output 1 connected to Ravish Sitar and output 2 connected to Boss ME-50 distortion. In the first half there is also a barely audible sound of metal scratching just to spice it a little.

Buy-own-smile
You can also buy "Accident Worship" CDr from Japanese Gravity Swarm online shop (filed under DARK/DEATH/HORROR... yeah!).
Few copies of "Abandoned Factories..." is available from Portuguese New Approach Records distro.
UPDATE: "Abandoned Factories..." tape is sold out from me. Get it from some other places I just mentioned above. Few copies of that tape and "Accident Worship" are available from Freak Animal.

update
First a long silence and then suddenly three posts in one day.
I've done a remix for Spurious Transients but I don't really know where and when will that come up. Gavin from ST had some plans but unfortunately there was some issues with the record company.
Some tracks have been sent back and forth with The Day of The Antler and maybe one of these days a sequel to SSS/TDOTA collaboration will see a day.

Gear-a-holic part 13
A small update about the gear I've got my hands on in a past half year or so.
Electro-Harmonix Ravish Sitar. "Turns your guitar into sitar", not quite. Sometimes it works fine, creating a droning sound but sometimes that sitar sound just buggers me big time. Found out that it works nice with some percussion sounds.
Electro-Harmonix 8-step program analog expression/cv sequencer. Functionality of this little piece depends on what it is attached to. It does not make any sound on it's own. It only controls the certain parameters of the effect pedal it is connected to. It also takes in midi commands and sends out CV information (which I find quite useful when attached to analog synth). If you feel like getting one, check closely the compatibility list first.
Rocktron Heart Attack dynamic filter. I got that for a cheap price but haven't used it much so cannot really say nothing sensible about it. Certainly not one of those things that make you go "w-o-w" at a very first try.
Alesis SR-16 drum machine. Vintagesynth.com tells that "SR-16 is a powerful drum machine, but ultimately it also sounds like a drum machine". I have always loved the mechanical machine-like unhuman drum sounds on Godflesh records and I found out that they were (still are???) using Alesis SR-16. It is affordable, slightly clumsy and if you are in a bad mood, creating patterns and fills may feel like pain in the ass... but I still like it, a lot. Generally I am not a big fan of MIDI technology but I like the way you can sync SR-16 with analog synth/sequencer (or with the EH 8-step sequencer I mentioned above).
Kinetik Laboratories Xmatrix passive matrix mixer with three inputs/outputs. Very nice gadget for routing input signal(s) to multiple outputs and/or for feedback insanity. Some will regard the limited inputs/outputs as downside, but so far I have made it quite well with only three ins & outs.
Sorry, no soundfiles this time. Maybe one of these days...

Buying stuff
Added my e-mail address to the top right where my profile stands (it was hidden beyond the profile link... which is not very useful). So now it is easier to contact me just in case you want to buy stuff directly from me.
You can get "Abandoned factories..." tape straight from Banned Productions web site. I have only few copies left.
"Ikuinen kaamos" 3" CDr is still available straight from Lona Records. I got only couple left.
"Accident worship" is still available. Some are gone but there is still plenty left.
You can also check my Discogs.com page if you feel like bying from there.
If you feel like bying some of those home-burned SSS CDr's, just contact me: swinger_vierikko (AT) hotmail (DOT) com

Vote with a brick part 6
Election time again! Now it was time to vote in European parliament election. So stuff it... and check out the part 6 in ever expanding "Vote with a brick"-series.
And I almost forgot... there was also Ukrainian presidential elections. Peaceful and hassle-free happening where everybody (especially in east Ukraine) had a possibility to use their constitutional right... yeah, you bet, shit.

ACCIDENT WORSHIP
After loooong silence a new SSS release is out there. This time I offer you "Accident worship", factory pressed (NOT home made) CDr in cardboard sleeve. But..... no free download this time. Limited edition of only 50. Pressed by X Youth Gone Wild.
If you want yourself a copy, you can get it for 8€ including shipping anywhere. Payments by paypal (world) or bank transfer (EU). - I AM RUNNING ON A LAST COPIES.
The usual elements are there: noisy soundscapes, gloomy ambient, field recordings from Thailand and UAE, samples (this time from some unknown tv shows, mysterious Arabian dance music tape, pounding drum loops from The Shrieks etc.), malformed human sounds.....
As Drone Records mail order says it: "another very good release by the Finnish experimental noise project, you could call this a kind of "industrialized musique concrete", combining concrete noises from car accidents and other found sounds with ethnic drumming or walls of drone noise, every track is different...".
Now available at Bandcamp.
You can hear/download a free WAV/MP3 sampler megamix at Archive.

I am back
Just back from a month lasting visit to United Arab Emirates & Sri Lanka. In spite of destructive heat, stomach infection & extremely dangerous traffic, everything's cool and I am loaded with some exciting new sound recordings.
I already have one or two album's worth of material, but... I don't know quite what to do with it. Making music is nice and rewarding but cover designing/printing, uploading and burning some cd-r copies feels more and more like pain in the ass. I just don't have time and energy for that shit like I used to have.
By the way, my first ever dj appearance 8.2. in Kotka. If any of you happen to be in-da-hood, hop in and say "hi".
